About The Mahj Bros

Two bros. One table. Plenty of opinions.

The Mahj Bros is a home for the curious, the competitive, and everyone who has ever wondered what happens when the tiles start talking.

Behind the bros.

The Mahj Bros began with longtime friends Jason and Ira, their shared love of Mahjong, and the realization that the best games are never just about the score. They're about the people, the stories and the moments that keep you coming back.

The Mahjcast started the way most questionable ideas do: with two guys talking way too much and wondering if anyone else might find us as entertaining as we find ourselves. We already loved talking mahjong—strategy, etiquette, drama, personalities, all of it—so we figured, why keep it at the table? We took the banter to the airwaves, and The Mahjcast was born.

Our Values

We don't take ourselves too seriously, most of the time.

Our mission is to make mahjong more fun, less precious and impossible to ignore—talking mahj culture, settling debates, celebrating the characters who make the game great, and giving all voices in the growing mahj community a seat at the table.

Laugh

Never take the game—or ourselves—too seriously. Unless it’s a tournament.

Love

Love the game, love the people, and make room at the table for everyone.

Play

Play often, play boldly, and never be afraid to stir the pot a little.

The voices behind the mic

Meet the bros

The voices behind The Mahjcast bring different perspectives, one shared obsession, and a healthy amount of friendly debate.

Co-host & table storyteller

Jason

Jason Wagenheim is a longtime media executive who’s spent his career leading some of the world’s biggest magazine brands, like Vanity Fair, Conde Nast Traveler, Entertainment Weekly and Maxim. Off the clock, he’s husband to Ali, dog dad to Levi, and father to a daredevil skydiving son who gives him daily coronaries. He calls East Hampton home, favors the Green Dragon, and plays on his prized For the Love of Mahj premium walnut set—which may be the best birthday gift he’s ever received. Jason brings the questions, the observations, and a knack for making every hand worth talking about.

Co-host & resident instigator

Ira

Ira Rogers is a former advertising agency executive turned nonprofit development and fundraising pro. A proud Massachusetts native, he now splits his time between Bridgehampton and Tribeca, where he balances mahjong with squash, rock climbing, hunting for a great deal, and shopping for home decor he definitely doesn’t need. A devoted uncle to his nephew Matthew and committed germaphobe, Ira also considers it part of his civic duty to point out, at every opportunity, what an absolute animal Jason is.

Come for the tiles. Stay for the banter.
